Position Summary:

A leading academic medical center in New York City is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join its outpatient ambulatory care team on a contract basis. Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Deliver professional nursing care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices.
  • Conduct patient assessments, develop and manage individualized care plans.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding care transitions and health maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Patient Experience

  • Support initiatives that enhance the patient experience, such as bedside reporting and purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Foster therapeutic relationships and consider cultural and individual patient preferences in care.
  • Address patient concerns and escalate when necessary to support satisfaction and trust.

Quality and Safety

  • Promote and practice high standards of safety and efficiency in care delivery.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.
  • Report and help address potential risks and ensure adherence to care standards.

Operations

  • Carry out charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
  • Ensure resource utilization aligns with patient care needs and department protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and facilitate smooth patient flow.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing education, professional growth, and shared decision-making forums.
  • Promote ethical practice and contribute to a supportive care environment for peers and patients.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives that reflect current best practices and community health needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Current NYS RN License (LPNs also considered, where applicable)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in an ambulatory care setting
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC preferred)
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred (not required for per diem roles)
  • Skilled in vaccine administration and laboratory specimen collection

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Associate Degree in Nursing acceptable with relevant experience or active enrollment in a BSN program

Additional Notes:

  • The position supports a department focused on palliative medicine and geriatric care.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-accountability outpatient clinical environment aligned with academic healthcare standards.
